JCC New Education Facility
Lewis County selected C&S to perform design and construction phase services for a new 22,000-square-foot higher education facility—the first of its kind in Lewis County. The building will house programs and classes for Jefferson Community College, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (B.O.C.E.S.).
A two-phase design approach was chosen due to the extremely aggressive schedule and to allow long-lead procurement items to go out in an early construction package.
Phase 1 consisted of site utilities, site improvements, and the construction of the structural foundation and building framing. Phase 2 consisted of final architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, and life safety design and was completed four weeks after Contract 1 was advertised.
C&S established the overall project schedule and approach, coordinated for all design and permitting reviews (including two planning board review meetings), and managed the bidding and award process on Lewis County’s behalf. The project earned a 2020 ACEC NY Silver Award for Engineering Excellence.
