Airport Fuel Facilities
Since 2007, C&S has provided design, bidding assistance, and construction phase services for three separate fuel facility projects at Griffiss International Airport. The first project was completed in two phases, and consists of a 100,000-gallon multi-purpose aviation and automotive fuels aboveground storage tank (AST) facility. The second project is a 4,000-gallon avgas AST self-service fuel facility. The third project is a 90,000-gallon jet fuel AST facility.
Multi-Purpose Fuel Facility
The multi-purpose fuel facility serves several functions, including:
- Storage and dispensing of automotive fuels (unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel) to fuel ground service equipment. This facility consists of two 2,000-gallon “hopper” style ASTs, above and underground piping, and a remove fuel dispensing island.
- Storage and bulk transfer of jet fuel and avgas, including four 20,000-gallon jet fuel ASTs and a 12,000-gallon avgas AST.
- Storage of jet fuel that is defueled from aircraft readying for indoor maintenance.
Each of the aviation fuel ASTs includes integral enclosures to house pump, filters, and fuel transfer equipment. Unique to the jet fuel tanks is they each are split into two 10,000-gallon compartments, and they share a common, centralized, overfill compartment equal to 20 percent of the tank’s capacity (4,000 gallons).
Self Service Fuel Facility
This facility consists of a double-wall steel UL 2085 FireGuard AST with an integral porch and canopy to house fuel dispensing equipment. A card reader provides 24-hour self-service fueling.
90,000-Gallon Jet Fuel Facility
Three 30,000-gallon ASTs are each equipped with a 6,000-gallon overfill compartment. A remote bulk transfer cabinet fills the tanks and transfers fuel into airport refueler vehicles.
