Dickerson Street over Onondaga Creek
C&S provided design phase (I-VI) services for rehabilitation of the 69-foot, single-span Dickerson Street Bridge over Onondaga Creek in Syracuse, NY, through the LAFA process. The multi-girder superstructure system is composed of individual concrete encased built-up steel arches supported by concrete gravity abutments with spread footings. Preliminary work included field inspection, topographic survey, coring of concrete encasement of girders, bridge deck evaluation, hydraulic analysis, load rating, development of alternatives, and presentation of findings at a public information meeting. Bridge rehabilitation included replacing the existing concrete bridge deck with a new cast-in-place concrete deck with integral wearing surface, replacing concrete sidewalks and stone curb, replacing existing steel bridge railing with Texas aesthetic bridge barrier, repairing deteriorated areas of the concrete encased built-up steel arch beams, repairing deteriorated areas of the stems of the concrete gravity abutments, replacing a wing wall, reconstructing roadway approaches, and adding stone fill scour protection.
