C&S Wins Two APWA NY Awards

C&S is proud to announce that two of our recent transportation projects have been honored with prestigious awards from the American Public Works Association (APWA) New York Chapter, CNY Branch. The Revitalization and Redevelopment of the Hamlet of Brewerton-Phase 2 and the Blue Street Reconstruction – Glenfield Complete Streets projects have both been recognized with Transportation Project of the Year awards for their excellence in design, execution, and community impact.

The Town of Cicero’s ambitious project aimed to transform Route 11 through the heart of Brewerton into a pedestrian-friendly main street. This 2R Pavement rehabilitation covered 1,000 feet from Guy Young Road to Bennett Street, addressing critical issues such as the lack of sidewalks and safe pedestrian crossings. The project overcame significant challenges, including the need for additional funding and coordination with NYSDOT, to reconstruct parking lanes and address conflicts with existing infrastructure.

The result is a revitalized street that enhances safety and accessibility, providing a vibrant space for local businesses and community events. The new sidewalks, improved crossings, and extended milling and paving limits have transformed Brewerton into a welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike.

Blue Street Reconstruction – Glenfield Complete Streets
Staff with APWA Award for Glenfield project

In the Town of Glenfield, the Blue Street Reconstruction project has redefined the downtown area under the Complete Streets Reconstruction program. C&S led the preliminary and final design, as well as construction inspection, to create an accessible and aesthetically pleasing streetscape. Key features include full-depth reconstruction, ADA-compliant curb ramps, pedestrian lighting, crosswalks, and a closed drainage system.

Despite seasonal limitations, we successfully negotiated the use of colored stamped concrete for snow storage areas, enhancing the project’s visual appeal and ensuring timely completion. The project also included significant public outreach, utility coordination, and grant application support, demonstrating our commitment to minimizing construction impacts and maximizing community benefits.

These awards underscore our dedication to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects that enhance community connectivity and safety. We are honored to be recognized by the APWA New York Chapter and look forward to continuing our work in creating vibrant, sustainable communities.
