Hopkins Receives 2021 AT&T CNY Woman in STEM Award
Terry Hopkins, Administrative Principal, was recently honored by receiving the 2021 AT&T CNY Woman in STEM Award at the Partners for Education and Business, Inc. Annual Awards Program. The purpose of the award is to recognize women committed to the advancement of STEM career preparation of youth and adults in Central New York. At C&S, Terry is responsible for community relations, learning and development, and social media marketing, while co-leading corporate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. She is deeply committed to education, particularly in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields. Terry believes that STEM education is vital to the future of C&S and our community; she is proud to support a number of initiatives that build a strong pipeline of students capable of tackling our community’s future challenges.
Terry leads and participates in many STEM/STEAM career exploration events starting with elementary schools, moving through intermediate and secondary levels, and taking them all the way up to teaching teachers, guidance counselors and administrators. Her signature event, “Engineer your Career,” offers students and adults the opportunity to learn about various careers in the STEM industry and paths to getting there. Participants engage in team-driven, hands-on activities and are offered one-on-one shadow opportunities. In addition, she leads the charge for other C&S events including Educators in the STEM Workplace, Girls in STEM, and Shadow Day.
Terry serves on several boards including the Onondaga Community College Foundation, C&S Foundation, and the Friends of Rosamond Gifford Zoo, where she is currently Vice Chair. She is an active participant in the CNY STEM Hub, Finger Lakes STEM Hub, and OCM BOCES Career and Technical Education Advisory Council. Terry also volunteers for the North Area Meals on Wheels, the Vera House White Ribbon Campaign, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
