C&S wins ACEC Michigan Award for Grand Rapids Airport Project
The C&S Companies and Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority were presented with a 2021 Merit Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan at their annual Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards gala held on February 26, 2021. C&S was recognized for the firm’s work on the Gerald R. Ford International Airport terminal apron reconstruction and expansion project, for which the firm was the prime engineer.
The Gerald R. Ford International Airport apron reconstruction and expansion was an opportunity to upgrade old infrastructure and expand the existing apron footprint to meet its rapidly growing demand. C&S provided full professional services, including engineering design, cost estimation, plan production, inspection and construction management. This $50 million pavement reconstruction and expansion project provides the airport with a long-term solution for serving air traffic. The complex project required multiple phases and continuous stakeholder communication over the 3-year construction period. It included the replacement and upgrade of the stormwater drainage system, underdrains, water mains, sanitary sewer, lighting, and signage. Aircraft operations to the terminal were maintained for the entire project duration. The apron expansion is an enabling project for the expansion of Concourse A that is planned in the near future. The project was completed on time and within budget. More information on the project can be found here.
The American Council of Engineering Companies of Michigan Awards Program recognizes outstanding Michigan engineering and surveying projects from the past year, as well as engineering professionals who have significantly contributed to the profession.
